Attractions to visit in Bhubneswar
- LINGRAJ TEMPLE - Lingraj temple is not only one of the oldest but also one of the most epochal temples of Bhubneswar. The main deity of this temple is lord Shiva. The temple is a major pilgrimage site and is a must visit place for spirituality seekers and grand architecture adorers.
- MUKTESHWAR TEMPLE- Undoubtedly an architectural wonder in itself, the Mukteshwar temple is famous for its intricate and splendid craftsmanship. The precision and skill showed in its infrastructure especially it’s renowned arched gateways (Toranas) and pillars is commendable. It is often referred to“Gem of Odisha architecture”.
- RAJARANI TEMPLE- It is one of the most unique temples of India because there is no deity inside the temple. This temple shows some sensuous and love carving on its outer walls and is named after the red and yellow sandstone with which it is formed (locally called rajarani).
- UDAYAGIRI AND KHANDAGIRI CAVES- These caves are located 7KM ahead of Bhubneshwar and are a must visit place for history enthusiasts. It provides a fabulous glimpse of the region’s history. The beautifully hand carved scriptures in the caves are scintillating.
- NANDANKANAN ZOOLOGICAL PARK- It is situated on the outskirts of Odisa and is a renowned wildlife sanctuary. The park is home to various species of animals and birds including the rare white tigers. It also has a botanical garden and a lake which also makes it an adept picnic spots amongst nature.
- DHAULI HILL AND SHANTI STUPA- Dhauli Hill holds historical significance because it is an important site of the Kalinga war. The Shanti stupa signifies the Pervasion of Buddhism in Odisa through emperor Ashoka. This site offers marvellous views of the countryside as well as features some Ashokan rock edicts.
Best time to visit Bhubneswar
The best time to visit this enchanting city is between the months of October to mid March during which the weather is quite pleasant and mild. Odisa is really hot and humid during the months of April and May and experiences heavy monsoon during the months of July to September making it not very ideal to visit during these months.
