Tour Plan
The flight to Paro is one of the most spectacular in entire Himalayas. Flying along the Himalayan range from Kathmandu, the journey offers fascinating views and an exciting descent into the Kingdom. Bhutan’s first gift, as you disembark from the aircraft will be cool, clean fresh mountain air.
After immigration formalities and baggage collection, you will be met by our guide, and afterwards drive to Thimphu (55 KMS / 1½ HRS DRIVE), the capital town of Bhutan with enroute stop at Chuzom, the confluence of Thimphu and Paro rivers. Three different style of stupas; Tibetan, Nepalese and Bhutanese adorn this confluence. Shortly before reaching Chuzom, you will see on your left TschogangLhakhang, “the temple of the excellent horse”. It is a private temple, built in 15th century, as the result of visitation from Balaha, the excellent horse, a manifestation of Chenrezig, the compassionate Buddha.
On arrival in Thimphu, check into the hotel. Take some rest & start your visit King's Memorial Chorten continuously circumambulated by people, murmuring mantras and spinning their prayer wheels.
Construction of this landmark was the idea of Bhutan’s third king, His Majesty Jigme Dorji Wangchuk (“the father of modern Bhutan”) who has wished to erect monument to world peace and prosperity. Completed in 1974 after his untimely death, it serves both as a memorial to the Late King and as a monument to peace. If time permits, visit Tashi Chhodzong.
Evening an exploratory walk around Thimphu Main Street and market area. Also visit the Local Crafts Bazaar, to browse through example of Bhutan's fine traditional arts. Here you can buy hand-woven textiles, Thangkha paintings, masks, ceramics, slate and wood carvings, jewellery, interesting items made from local materials.

After breakfast at hotel, sightseeing in Thimphu valley including visit to the following: Visit to Buddha Point (Kuensel Phodrang). Located at a short drive from Thimphu city centre, visitors can get a good overview of the Thimphu valley from the Buddha point (KuenselPhodrang).
You can pay your obeisance and offer prayers to the Buddha, the largest statue in the country and then walk around and take a glimpse of the valley. Followed by short hike “Buddha Nature Trail” from Buddha point to Changangkha Lhakhang (02 hours easy hike).
The hike from Buddhapoint to Changangkha Lhakhang is the most popular one to see the locals of Bhutan and at the same time take a forest bath. As you hit the trail you will be greeted by thousands of prayer flags and welcomed by a pristine forest of pines, birch, and rhododendron trees. If you are lucky, you can encounter few wild pheasant and bore.
The trail is well maintained and at some places along the trails Gazebos are set up from where you can have a spectacular view of Thimphu valley and ends at Changangkha Lhakhang. Institute for Zorig Chusum (commonly known as the Painting School) where students undergo a 6-year training course in Bhutan’s 13 traditional arts and crafts.
After lunch, take a short drive (15 km) to Pangri Zampa, 16th century one of the oldest monasteries in Bhutan located just north of Thimphu. Here is a monastic school where Buddhist student’s monks learn Lamaism and astrology based on Buddhist philosophy.
Afternoon visit, Zilukha Nunnery is also known as Druthob Goemba. Housing around 60 nuns in its premises, a visit to the site energizes the soul because of its peaceful surroundings, which lures one's mind to never leave the site. This is the biggest nunnery in Bhutan and the interactive session with nuns is very informative. It is a good experience to know about their lifestyle from themselves. Knowing about their experiences, beliefs and education is quite a fun activity.

After breakfast at hotel, drive to Punakha across Dochula pass (3O8Om). In Bhutan, the passes are marked by a large Bhutanese Chorten and prayer flag. Dochula pass offers the most spectacular view over the high peaks of the eastern Himalayas on a clear day.
Enroute proceed for the day excursion to Chimi Lhakhang (from hotel it is about 15 minutes’ drive till motorable road and then walk starts through paddy fields and villages. This is total about 1½ hour walk, including both way).
The Chimi Lhakhang, situated on a hillock in the centre of the valley, also known as the temple of fertility. It is widely believed that couples who do not have children and wanting one, if they pray at this temple, they are usually blessed with a child very soon. The trail leads across rice fields to the tiny settlement of Pana, meaning ‘field’.
A walk through the village near the temple will give you rare glimpses into the daily life and lifestyle of the villagers. The Sangchhen Dorji Lhuendrup Nunnery is perched on a hilltop overlooking the beautiful Punakha valley and Wangduephodrang valley. Surrounded by rich lush green pine forest the nunnery complex is a true expression of Bhutanese architecture portraying strong traditional values.

Today the day start early to Gangtey & Phobjikha Valley (3000Mts / 9845fts , 85Kms / 3 to 3½ Hrs One way ) The valley of Gangtey is one of the most beautiful spots in Bhutan.
After reaching Gangtey, check in the hotel. Later start your Gangtey Nature Trail hike is a gentle 2hrs hike that lets you feel remarkable Phobjikha Valley. En route you will pass grass planes, farmhouses & dense pine forests before reaching end of the hike. After that, you’ll visit Gangtey monastery to listen the chant of prayers. (If time allows)

Today you will be travelling to Bumthang via road. So have an early breakfast and leave for the road trip immediately.
Upon your arrival at the hotel, complete your check-in formalities and start with your sightseeing tour. The first destination in the city is the Jakar Dzong. This picturesque location overlooks the Chokhor valley and was built in 1667. It is also known as the Yuelay Namgyal Dzong. This is in honour of the victory over the troops of the Tibetan ruler.
You can then continue with your sightseeing tour in the town of Bumthang. The first destination for the day is the Wangdichholing Palace. The palace was built in 1857, on the site of a battle camp. Fun fact is that it is the first palace in Bhutan that was not designed as a fortress. The place is definitely worth a visit.
After the tour of this Dzong, spend some leisure time at the local market of the town and you can also try out some local delicacies if you wish to. Later on, return to your hotel and catch up on some rest.

Start your day by having a healthy breakfast at the hotel and day hike to Ngang Lhakhang. 3hrs walk up the Bumthang from Thangbi Gompa is the small of Ngang Yul Swan Land).
Even this site was visited by Guru Rinpoche and hence holds utmost importance in the town. Go there for its structure and architecture and you will not be disappointed.
Later visit Kurjey Lhakhang. This temple complex is huge and very active. It is named after the body (kur) print (jey) of Guru Rinpoche. The body is preserved here in a cave inside the oldest of the three buildings that make up the temple complex. Later on, return for dinner and night stay.

Today you will be travelling to Punakha via road. So have an early breakfast and leave for the road trip immediately. Take short break at Willing Waterfall café. On arrival in Punakha you will check in hotel for night halt.

Begin your day with breakfast at the hotel and then restart your sightseeing tour. For today you will be visiting the Khamsum Yulley Namgyal Chorten. The Chorten is a splendid architectural complex and has an artistic vision of the Bhutanese culture attached to it. The extensive rice fields that surround the temple also add up to the nice aura.
The next destination in the town is the Zangdo Pelri Temple. The temple is a magnificent place in Bhutan where you can find statues of Guru along with his eight manifestations. Here the walls are enclosed with several paintings that are taken from the life of Buddha. You must visit the place for its architecture.
Lastly, you head to the Punakha Suspension Bridge. Crossing this bridge is fun; however, do not forget to make a visit to the nearby Punakha Dzong. It is a beautiful ancient fortress, which houses valuable relics. Later on, return to your hotel for a delicious dinner and a good night’s stay.

After breakfas at hotel, check-out from the hotel and drive to Paro (120 KMS / 4½ HRS DRIVE APPROX) along scenic highway, enroute visit SimtokhaDzong, the oldest fortress of the country built in 1627 which now houses the School for Buddhist studies.
On arrival in Paro, check into the hotel. After lunch, proceed to visit Ta Dzong, originally built as Watchtower, which now houses National Museum. The extensive collection includes antique Thangkha paintings, textiles, weapons & armour, household objects and a rich assortment of natural and historic artifacts.
Ta Dzong visit immediately followed by a short walk down the trail to visit Rinpung Dzong (ParoDzong), meaning (“fortress of the heap of jewels”), which has a long and fascinating history. Along the wooden galleries lining the inner courtyard are fine wall paintings illustrating Buddhist lore such as four friends, the old man of long life, the wheel of life, scenes from the life of Milarepa, Mount. Sumeru and other cosmic Mandala.

After breakfast at hotel excursion to Taktshang Monastery or Tiger’s Nest (approx. 5 hours walk): It is one of the most famous of Bhutan’s monasteries, perched on the side of a cliff 900m above the Paro valley floor.
It is said that Guru Rinpoche arrived here on the back of a tigress and meditated at this monastery and hence it is called ‘Tiger’s Nest’. This site has been recognised as a most sacred place and visited by ShabdrungNgawangNamgyal in 1646 and now visited by all Bhutanese at least once in their lifetime.
On 19 April, 1998, a fire severely damaged the main structure of building but now this Bhutanese jewel has been restored to its original splendour.
Evening, visit the 7th century Kyichu Lhakhang, one of the 108 temples built in the Himalayas by Tibetan King, Songtsen Gampo. The building of this temple marks the introduction of Buddhism in Bhutan.

Start early for the drive to Chele La Pass which (3,988m) from which on a clear day the view sweeps away to Bhutan’s second highest peak, Mt Jhomolhari (7314m). Striding out along the Edelweiss covered ridge, we pass a sky burial site.
We then descend for the two-hour hike through dense rhodendron forest, possibly sighting shaggy yaks, to KilaGoemba, an ancient nunnery nestled in a craggy patch on the mountainside below. KilaGoemba is a serene retreat for 32 Anims (Buddhist nuns) who lead an undisturbed life of religious studies, prayer and meditation.
If time permits we will visit Lhakhag karpo and Lhakhang Nagpo. Later evening drive back to Paro for night halt.

After early breakfast at the hotel, drive to the airport for flight to your onward destination. Our guide will help you with exit formalities and then bid you farewell.
